Daemonologie

King James 6th of Scotland and 1st of England was an active witch-hunter, believing that witches had tried to sink his ship, as he was sailing to Scotland from Denmark with his new queen.. He joined in a notorious witch-trial at North Berwick, and later wrote a treatise entitled "Daemonologie". The texts and images in this tapestry are taken from an original copy of the book, published in 1603, and from a pamphlet entitled "Newes from Scotland", from 1591.
