Artist's Statement

My work is concerned with breaking out of the convention which associates textiles and woven tapestry with a sense of cosiness and comfort. I try to introduce elements of irony, or to make the viewer think about the issues I raise, while also presenting an object which is visually arresting.

I use text as an additional element, including responses I receive from the public, the subtexts of things I read, chemical formulae, and historical references, all in the service of reflecting the ironies of my position as a woman and an artist in a medium associated with femininity and 'niceness'.

Recently I have also begun to incorporate critical writing into my practice.
